About the video project “The Adventure of Movement”

The video project “The Adventure of Movement” offers the opportunity to experience the phenomena of the creative process, to live in movement and to live the movement inside oneself.

About authentic movement

The project will offer the possibility to get acquainted with the authentic movement.

Very often in dance tuition, the main focus is on the technical repetitions of the dance and movement elements. And little attention is paid to to internal content of the movement.

The authentic movement technique allows oneself to enjoy the contents of the primary source of the movement – to listen with great care to the messages of ones body.

Authentic movement was started by Mary Starks Whitehouse in the 1950s as "movement in depth". While working in her studio she realized that the things her students did in the repetition process were far more interesting than what happened later on stage. During the repetition process the actor's movements possessed a much deeper internal genuineness.

Authentic movement is a method to find new, saturated, emotional movement expressions.

About me

I have encountered with authentic movement through two different aspects. One was through Dance Movement Therapy, where an in-depth self-research was done, using authentic movement techniques. The second was through contemporary dance – I came across the concept of authentic movement during the contemporary dance festival „Time to dance...“ (An annual contemporary dance festival, held in Latvia). In contemporary dance the authentic movement technique is used to evolve the dancers' creative potential.

I have conducted authentic movement classes to drama students and dancers in Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg and St. Petersburg.

While observing the process of authentic movement, I have experienced many touching and beautiful moments. The beauty lies within the originality and truthfulness of the movement. The unique quality of authentic movement is defined by its originality, determined by the principle of “here and now”, that is the basis of the authentic movement.
